Jess Ribeiro is a shape-shifting musical enigma. The near-untouchable quality of her recorded output is astonishingly consistent, and the wait for new music is always worthwhile.
Inspired by artists as diverse as The Velvet Underground to Dusty Springfield, she has been compared to the likes of Karen Dalton and Cat Power and performed with artists including Angel Olsen, Aldous Harding, Kurt Vile, Nick Cave, and Steve Earle.
Across three critically-acclaimed albums – LOVE HATE (2019), Kill It Yourself (2015) and My Little River (2012) – Ribeiro crossed genre boundaries to create bodies of work that cemented her as one of so-called-Australia’s most unique voices in songwriting and storytelling.
Jess Ribeiro has received widespread acclaim and support from NPR, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, The Monthly, Sydney Morning Herald, Rolling Stone, triple j, Feature Albums on Double J, ABC RN (+ Album of the Year) and Triple R among others, with wins and nominations from the Australian Music Prize, Music Victoria Awards, AIR Awards and the Environmental Music Prize (for her 2022 single ‘In Love With This Place’).

Alongside her own musical output, Ribeiro has lent her voice to other musicians – including backing vocals for Nick Cave’s Push The Sky Away tour, Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile’s collaborative album Whole Lotta Sea Lice and Mick Harvey’s tetralogy of albums presenting the songs of Serge Gainsbourg.
Jess Ribeiro’s latest single ‘Summer of Love’ is a warm, piano-led song wrapped in hopefulness and love that came out of a period of tangible vulnerability and mourning. Its soft yet grounding instrumentation comes courtesy of Jim White’s (Dirty Three, Xylouris White, Cat Power) light touch on drums, Carrie Webster’s violin and viola, and piano from Nick Huggins, who also lent his hand to recording the track.
