Juice Webster

Since her first release in 2019, Naarm/Melbourne-based artist Juice Webster has been an artist whose music is a kind of summoning— soft echoes of connectedness and courage, and all-encompassing.

First winning ears and hearts around the continent as one half of indie electronic duo Hemm, Juice Webster’s solo works span across a vast sonic territory – her take on introspective indie-rock saw her compared to the likes of Snail Mail and Phoebe Bridgers (Beat Magazine), while her folk melancholia was likened to Cat Power (Swede and Sour, US); now on her debut album JULIA she steps confidently into a zone that’s entirely her own, mastering her craft and writing the songs she has long worked towards creating, without losing the irresistibly inviting darkness that permeates her work.

Her acclaimed EPs You Who Was Myself and More Than Reaction have seen her play sold out shows around Naarm/Melbourne, from a two-night EP launch stint at The Tote, to a 2022 performance slot at The Forum. She has also made appearances at Town Folk Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, and on touring circuits supporting the likes of Mimi Gilbert and Slowly Slowly.

Now in 2023, Juice Webster brings her first full-length offering: JULIA. An LP that ripples with fervid reflection and clarity that stings in order to soothe. Her music is a fragrance. One that reminds you of yourself, of a lover’s face close up, of time that is fragmented, but still felt all over.

A beautiful build, given weight with that guitar, and the vocals working to ground the song in a beautiful loop.

Juice Webster – Headaches (Official Video)

Recorded between the bush and the city with her immaculate live band, JULIA traces the tides of loss, and the witnessing of time as bittersweet. It’s a debut that coalesces Juice’s dream sounds and influences into her own; a long-harboured goal that has culminated in a new calibre of songwriting and production.

These are songs that see uncertainty as part of a fragile, precious order. JULIA feels like a watertight vessel that lucidly channels the tenderness, spirit and nerve at the centre of Juice’s music. With singles ‘In The Zone’, ‘Headaches’ and ‘Returning’, Juice effortlessly switches between confidence, introspectiveness, and contemplativeness, pairing her lush, intimate performance style with hard-hitting lyrics that speak directly to the soul.
